Thermocouple and Compensating Cables
The joint of two dissimilar alloys producing a measurable electro-motive force that is predictable at a given temperature is the thermocouple. Different thermocouple types (e.g. J, K, E, etc) use different mixtures of metals in the cable. We regularly manufacture different types of thermocouple compensating cables to meet specific operating requirements. Thermocouple cables create a low voltage signal and should not be run near power wires, motors, etc. In order to minimize noise pickup, a metal over braid or twisted shielded wire is used in the construct.
